Key Differences

  • Leesa is .5” thicker
  • Purple’s top layer of hyper-elastic polymer makes it bouncier/more resilient than Leesa
  • The Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer layer is 2 inches thick, while Leesa’s total comfort layers are 4 inches thick
  • Purple is a bit more expensive than Leesa

Construction/Feel

This is where the differences really lie.  Purple is 9.5” thick.  The top 2” are very unique in the industry.  The top layer is made out of hyper-elastic polymer.  It is made to relieve pressure better than any other material you can find in the industry.  It has a unique feel where it feels relatively firm initially but also does in fact relieve pressure quite well.  It is also very bouncy/resilient, making it pretty similar to a latex feel.

See how Purple feels here

The Leesa is 10” thick.  It is 2” of Avena (latex-like) foam, over 2” of 3lb. density memory foam, over 6” of 1.8 lb. density polyfoam.  It has good conforming and pressure-relieving properties, as well as a little bounce and resilience to it as well.

The main takeaways are that they both do a good job at relieving pressure and in my opinion are good for most sleepers.  The Purple mattress has more bounce to it, and that is the key difference to the feel in my opinion.

Given the Leesa has 3 lb. density memory foam, in my experience it may not be as appropriate as the Purple for people that are heavy (this is simply based on my understanding that lower density foams tend to be less durable).  I think the feel of the Leesa will be more “normal” for more people given the extra bounce that Purple has.

Price

Purple is $999 right now for a Queen.  Shipping is free.

Leesa is $850 for a Queen, but generally you can get an $80 discount on it.  Shipping is free.

Pick Purple If:

  • You Want Extra Bounce– There is no question that Purple gives you extra bounce.  Some people like that, while others do.  If that’s what you are looking for, you might want to consider Purple.
  • You Are Very Sensitive To Sleeping Hot– Purple does maybe the best job I’ve seen of staying cool.
  • You Are Heavier– The top layer feels firm but also pressure-relieving, which is ideal for people above a certain weight range.  I also feel that the materials are more durable for heavier people.

Pick Leesa If:

  • You Prefer A More Standard Foam Feel– Leesa does a great job of catering to sleepers of all types.  It certainly has a more standard, normal foam feel than Purple does.  You sink in a little bit and have a little bounce too.
  • You Want To Save A Little Extra– After considering discounts, the Leesa will cost a decent amount less than the Purple.

Overall

Both mattresses are great options and I don’t think most people can go wrong with either one.  With that being said, which one you get will just come down to personal preference.  Take a look at the different characteristics presented here, and then you can try to make a better decision from there.
