Novosbed vs Loom and Leaf

Novosbed and Loom & Leaf (L&L) are generally considered the two high-end online memory foam mattress brands. Both are very well-reviewed, have excellent customer service, and have great products (I’ve tried both and they really are top-notch).

There are some key differences that will make one or the other more suitable, depending on your sleep preferences.

This article will go through the major similarities and differences in an effort to clarify the decision if you have boiled your choice down to Loom & Leaf vs Novosbed.

Novosbed Vs Loom & Leaf

Key Similarities

  • Both available online-only
  • Both have 4.8+/5 customer satisfaction ratings
  • Both provide great value
  • Both offer multiple firmness options: L&L offers 2, Novosbed offers 3
  • Both are priced @ $999 for a queen (after discount), although L&L charges an additional $99 for delivery

Loom and Leaf vs Novosbed Construction

Key Differences and Main Points:

  • Novosbed is unapologetically memory foam – Novosbed strongly advocates the benefits of sleeping on memory foam and has built their mattress to get you as close to the memory foam as possible. The cover has very little loft and they use 4 inches of pure, ultra-dense memory foam. On a Novosbed, you are about 1/16 inch away from the memory foam layer when you sleep. If you want a purist high-end memory foam mattress, Novosbed is the way to go.
  • Loom & Leaf has a loftier (thicker) cover that integrates a layer of conventional foam to increase bounce and airflow between you and the memory foam. As a result, you get less of the memory foam effect with L&L. So, if you want a little less memory foam, L&L is a better choice.
  • Novosbed Offers Comfort+ Firmness Adjustment – In the entire online mattress industry, this is unique to Novosbed: if your Novosbed mattress is too soft or too firm, they will ship you a “Comfort+ Kit” to adjust the firmness. It adds another 2” of thickness to the mattress, but integrates seamlessly by extending the cover and adding another comfort layer to the top. It takes about 2 minutes to install.
  • Loom & Leaf has organic cotton, Novosbed has a washable top cover – While this feature is not important to some, it is definitely something you might want to consider when making the choice between Novosbed and Loom & Leaf.
L&L uses an organic cotton cover. Under the sheets, the feel of the cover doesn’t make a difference, but some people might prefer the concept of organic cotton over the convenience of a durable washable cover.
  • Novosbed and Loom & Leaf use different cooling technologies – L&L uses a gel coating to sink heat while you fall asleep. Novosbed uses a moisture wicking top cover and vertical airflow channels. I found both comfortable to sleep on: heat was not a problem.
  • Loom & Leaf offers white glove delivery, including in-home setup – Although it costs and additional $99 (and is not refundable if you return the mattress), Loom and Leaf offers white glove delivery and in house setup.
  • Canada – Loom & Leaf has a very small footprint in Canada. Novosbed was the first company to offer free shipping throughout Canada

Novosbed Mattress Reviews and Complaints

Pick Novosbed If:

  • You Want a Pure Memory Foam FeelNovosbed is unapologetically memory foam and arguably gets you closer to pure memory foam than Tempurpedic. If you are a memory foam purist, go for a Novosbed.
  • You Aren’t Sure What Firmness Level Is Right For You – Novosbed does a great job of managing the concern about finding the right firmness level. The perfect firmness guarantee is great and very unique in the industry.
  • You Anticipate Having The Mattress For A Long Time – As mentioned, the Novosbed uses very durable materials that should last a long time. If you plan on having your mattress for a long time, then the value of the Novosbed becomes greater.
  • You are in Canada – Novosbed is the only high-end mattress brand with easy, free shipping and returns in Canada.

Loom and Leaf Review

Pick Loom & Leaf if:

  • You Want a Little Less Memory Foam Feel – L&L is a more bouncy than Novosbed. If you don’t like memory foam as much, but want a high-end mattress, L&L is a good choice.
  • You know what firmness you needLoom and Leaf has 2 firmness options. If you don’t want the security of Novosbed’s Comfort+, go with L&L.
  • You want White Glove Delivery – Novosbed doesn’t presently offer white glove delivery, so L&L is your best choice here.

Nest Easy Breather Pillow Review

The Easy Breather Pillow from Nest Bedding has been amongst my favorites, and is one of my preferred options in-between other pillow reviews.

Though I think it’s a great option, it’s not perfect for everyone or every situation.  Read my Nest Easy Breather Pillow review to see if this pillow is a good fit.

Nest Easy Breather PillowNest Easy Breather Pillow

Pillow Construction

Nest Bedding is known for having more natural products, with this pillow being no exception.  The inside of the pillow is a shredded blend, consisting of shredded memory foam and other materials to mimic the feeling of a down pillow.

The shredding is great because you have some of the responsiveness of a memory foam pillow without the firmness that some memory foam pillows have (most people aren’t fans of the feeling).  You can see below the shredded stuffing:

Easy Breather Natural Pillow Construction

The cover is made of Tencel fabric, making it soft to the touch and lightweight.  Also relatively easy to spot clean.

My Experience

The Easy Breather Pillow is available on the Nest Bedding site and Amazon, I just went ahead and bought from the Nest Bedding site.

When taking it out of the package, there was a slight chemical smell (called off-gassing) from the memory foam.  I was anxious to use the pillow, but I ended up waiting one night and letting it air out.  By the next day the smell was totally gone.

Checking out the pillow I noticed that it has a zipper, allowing you to see the shredded memory foam on the inside.  This zipper is important as well because if you want to customize the size/firmness of the pillow, you can just simply pull out some of the filling.  I didn’t end up doing this myself, but if you want a softer or thinner pillow, this could be a great feature!

Nest Bedding Easy Breather Pillow

I do like memory foam pillows, but they can be polarizing, causing neck and head soreness for some.  However, upon sleeping on the Easy Breather pillow, I think they really struck the right balance – it has the support of a memory foam pillow, but doesn’t have the firmness and too-slow responsiveness.

I slept in multiple positions throughout the night and found the pillow to be a good fit for each, even when sleeping on my stomach.  It’s honestly hard to describe the feel, it’s very unique – but my subjective opinion is that it’s one of the most comfortable pillows I’ve reviewed.

PROs

  • Has the memory foam feel without the firmness (that can lead to neck soreness)
  • Good air flow, keeping it cool (aka doesn’t sleep hot)
  • Financing available
  • Made in the USA
  • Available in standard, queen, and king sizes
  • Natural option available (with latex instead of memory foam)

Complaints

  • Not machine washable
  • Off-gassing smell upon opening (goes away within 24 hours)
  • On the expensive side

Final Recommendation

The Nest Bedding Easy Breather Pillow is a great all-around pillow, and definitely one of my top picks.  Note they also have a natural option available if you want to be sleeping on fewer chemicals throughout the night.

The support/tradeoff firmness is my favorite, I use it when sleeping in any position, and have occasionally used it between the legs when sleeping on my side.

My Pillow Review

My Pillow is the most popular pillow on the market due to their extensive tv campaigns.  While I do think that it’s a great idea to invest in a quality pillow, I don’t think that My Pillow is the right option.

Overall I had a pretty bad experience with the pillow, and do not recommend it.  Read my full My Pillow Review to see some of the issues I experienced.

My Pillow Review

PROs

  • Very soft and thin (could good for stomach sleepers or side sleepers)
  • Reasonably priced (compared to high-end pillows)

Complaints

  • Lumpy
  • Too thin (bad for back sleepers)
  • Feels low quality

My Experience

My Pillow is available at a number of locations, including Amazon, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Kohl’s, and QVC.  I ordered mine from Amazon, and upon arrival followed the first instructions: put it in the dryer for 15 minutes.

My Pillow Dryer

I’m a side sleeper and back sleeper, and used My Pillow as my primary pillow for a few nights.  It’s not too firm or big, so it didn’t hurt my neck.  However, it did feel like the foam was separated inside of it, kind of like a parting where my head went.  Definitely a little too lumpy.

This made me sink seemingly all the way through it, sometimes making it feel like I wasn’t sleeping on a pillow at all.

My PIllow Side Sleeper

I read other reviews that complained about the lumpiness and thinness, and unfortunately I experienced it myself.  I even put it in the dryer for another 15 minutes after trying it for a few nights (in case it needed to puff up more), but that didn’t seem to make any difference.

I did try the pillow between the knees (when sleeping on my side), and this was a much better experience.  It actually is the right amount of cushion between the knees, and the pillow is a nice size so that it doesn’t dominate your bed.

My Pillow Lumpy

My Pillow Specs

The My Pillow comes in sizes Queen and King (I tried the queen).  The Queen is actually quite small, smaller than other Queen sizes I’ve tried anyway. I believe the My Pillow has a warranty, but honestly I can’t imagine it getting to worse condition than when it arrived.

Final Recommendation

I don’t think the My Pillow is a scam (as other people have suggested in other user reviews) – I just think that with such a strong marketing campaign, the My Pillow is overhyped.  It’s fine, but not the dream pillow that you have been searching for.

The National Sleep Foundation does support the pillow, so they are clearly seeing something I’m not. I would suggested investing in a quality pillow, just not My Pillow. Look at my top reviewed pillows for other options I recommend.

Novosbed vs Leesa

Novosbed and Leesa are two online-only mattress companies that have had a lot of success.  While they have products with different construction, they both have been able to drive sales by highlighting the value consumers get by buying their product online.

As the two companies grow, many people are starting to wonder how the two mattresses compare and which mattress is a better.  I like both mattresses, but I think if you have certain preferences, one mattress will suit you better than the other.

This article will go through the major similarities and differences in an effort to clarify the decision if you have boiled your choice down to Novosbed vs Leesa.

Leesa vs Novosbed

Key Similarities

  • Both available only online
  • Both have very friendly sleep trials and good customer service
  • Both provide great value
  • Both are all foam mattresses

Key Differences

  • Novosbed has an all memory foam comfort layer / Leesa’s is a hybrid of latex-like Avena foam and memory foam
  • Leesa has a bouncier, more responsive feel than Novosbed (see the feel in my Leesa review)
  • Novosbed arguably has more durable materials
  • Leesa has just one firmness option.  Novosbed has 3, as well as a perfect firmness guarantee (learn more in my Novosbed review)
  • Novosbed costs roughly $150-$200 more

Construction

The Leesa mattress consists of 2” of Avena foam (a latex-like foam), over 2” of 3 lb. density memory foam, over 6” of 1.8 lb. density polyfoam.

The Novosbed consists of 2” of 5 lb. density memory foam (with the medium firmness option), over another 2” of 5 lb. memory foam, over 7” of 1.8 lb. density polyfoam.

Leesa Vs Novosbed

The Avena foam has a bouncier, more responsive feel than the memory foam that the Novosbed contains.  Whether this is a good thing really comes down to personal preference.

General Feel

I did feel that the mattresses were similar in getting you to sink into the mattress just enough without feeling like you are sleeping “in” the mattress.  However, the real difference is that the Leesa is much more responsive and bouncy than the Novosbed is.  This means that if you were to move around, the Novosbed would take more time to react to your movement, as is true with most true memory foam mattresses.

Which type of feel is better?  Well, that comes down to personal preference.  Most people tend to either love or hate the true memory foam feel, so I would make sure to understand where you stand on the issue when deciding between these two mattresses.

Novosbed Mattress Reviews and Complaints

Novosbed memory foam mattress

Firmness Level

Leesa has just one firmness option, which I do think is suitable for a large portion of sleepers. I found it to feel great on both my side and back, so I think they did a great job of catering to as many people as possible.

Novosbed has three different options.  However, where it really stands out is with its perfect firmness guarantee.  This simply means if you get your mattress and think it’s too firm or too soft, the company will send you a Comfort + layer to make the necessary adjustment.  I think this is a great innovation and should calm any concerns about not trying the mattress out ahead of time.

Picture of the Leesa mattress

Leesa mattress

Customer Service / Trial / Return Policy

While there are slight differences between the two companies as far as the sleep trial and return policy go, I would just note that they are both really good and I wouldn’t consider the differences as part of my decision.  Both companies are known for having excellent customer service.

Durability

For the base layer, both companies use the same density for their foam.  The middle layer is the biggest difference, however.  Leesa uses a 3 lb. density memory foam, while Novosbed uses a 5 lb. density memory foam.  Generally, the higher the density, the more durable the material is, so I would expect the Novosbed to last longer.

Sleeping Hot

Both mattresses use a similar method of preventing people from “sleeping hot.”  I personally didn’t notice any substantial difference, so I would say the mattresses are about equal in this category.

Price

Leesa sells its Queen for $890, but you can usually get a $75 discount.  Novosbed sells its Queen for $1,099, but you can usually get a $100 discount.  Either way you look at it, Leesa sells for less, so you have to decide if the differences in construction/feel/quality are worth the extra cost for the Novosbed.

Pick Novosbed If:

You Want A Pure Memory Foam Feel– Some people absolutely love the slow-moving feel of memory foam.  That is the type of feel you get with Novosbed.

You Aren’t Sure What Firmness Level Is Right For You– Novosbed does a great job of managing the concern about finding the right firmness level.  The perfect firmness guarantee is great and very unique in the industry.

You Anticipate Having The Mattress For A Long Time-As mentioned, the Novosbed uses very durable materials that should last a long time.  If you plan on having your mattress for a long time, then the value of the Novosbed becomes greater.

Pick Leesa If:

You Want A Bouncier / More Responsive Feel– If you want the benefits of a foam mattress but don’t like the slow-moving memory foam feel, then the Leesa should be a good choice for you.

You Have Average Stats / Sleeping Preferences– Leesa is perfect for people who are in the middle of the road as far as their weight, build, and sleeping positions.  If you weigh 175 lbs., for example, and sleep sometimes on your side, sometimes on your back, you will probably like the Leesa a lot and wouldn’t need the firmness guarantee that Novosbed provides.  If you are excessively heavy or tiny, then you might want to consider the Novosbed.

Final Recommendation

Both mattresses are a great value and can be a really great choice for the right person.  Out of all the reviews I’ve done, these two mattresses are definitely both towards the very top.  Take a look at the key differences I’ve laid out and assess how they apply to you personally, and from there you should be able to make an informed decision.

Helix Vs Leesa

Helix and Leesa are two popular online-only mattress companies.  Leesa has an offering that aims to be a great fit for the vast majority of sleepers, while Helix personalizes every mattress to the individual based on a number of criteria.

If you are deciding Helix vs Leesa, I think the decision is pretty easy – but it depends on your personal sleep preferences.

Leesa vs Helix Sleep

Materials and Construction

The Helix mattress is comprised of three different layers.  The layers are a combination of microcoils, dunlop latex, and polyfoam.  The layers will be put in different orders depending on each individual’s responses to the questionnaire.  The latex will vary in feel based on the questionnaire responses, and the polyfoam density will also vary depending on the answers to the questionnaire.  Overall, the materials are high quality and durable.

Helix vs Leesa Construction

The Leesa is comprised of 2” of Aveena foam (similar to latex), over 2” of memory foam of 6” of support polyfoam.  This construction is intended to create a nice conforming foam feel without retaining any of the drawbacks associated with pure memory foam.

Feel Difference

It’s hard to really describe the difference in the feel because the feel of the Helix will vary greatly depending on the answers to your questionnaire.  The Leesa has a very nice foam feel that I think will be enjoyed by the vast majority of sleepers.  It has the conformity and pressure relief of memory foam, but it isn’t slow-moving.  Overall, if you like foam mattresses, Leesa will probably feel very nice.

Price Difference

For a Queen, the Leesa will be $890, while the Helix will be $900.  The Leesa usually has a discount available from $50-75 and the Helix usually has a $50 discount available.  Either way, the price difference is quite minimal.

Main Takeaways

Because Helix personalizes each mattress, it’s hard to make any blanket statements because my mattress will be different from yours.  That also makes it harder to say you should definitely pick one of the two companies over the other.  However, I’ll try to provide some guidance on the types of people who might want to pick Helix and who might want to pick Leesa.

You Should Choose Helix If:

Couples– Couples quite often have debates about which mattress to get because each partner might have different preferences.  The Helix is a great option for couples like that because they offer split or blended mattresses.  This means you can either have half the mattress cater to one partner and the other side caters to the other, or you can blend the two preferences into one mattress. Learn more in my best mattress for couples page.

Helix Sleep Reviews

You’re Not Sure Exactly What You Want– If you don’t have any strong preferences one way or the other, or you just don’t know what to get, the Helix can be a great option.  The personalization process can take a lot of the guesswork out of the equation and essentially do all the research for you.

You Don’t Mind Taking A Risk On A New Concept– This is a very new concept.  I would read as much about the science and research behind it as I could to get comfortable around it.  If you don’t mind taking a small risk on a new concept, the Helix might be for you.

You Should Choose Leesa If:

You Enjoy A Foam Feel But Don’t Like Certain Drawbacks Of Memory Foam– To me, Leesa has done a great job of retaining a nice, conforming foam feel without feeling like you get stuck in the mattress or sleeping hot.  Essentially, it retains many of the benefits of memory foam without many of the drawbacks.  If you are generally used to foam mattresses, I think there’s a great chance you will like the Leesa (aside from perhaps people on the low or very high end of the weight spectrum).

Leesa Mattress Reviews

You Want To Read Lots of Customer Experiences– Again, it’s hard to say anything consistent about the feel of the Helix because every mattress will be personalized and different.  With Leesa, the reviews you read will be about the exact product you will receive.  If that is important to you, then the Leesa will provide more clarity.

You Are Looking At The Other Online-Only Foam Offerings– I think Leesa compares very favorably to online-only mattress offerings like Casper and Tuft And Needle.  If you are taking a look at those types of mattresses, I would give Leesa a strong look.

Overall

I think both companies are providing very intriguing offerings and rank well in my overall mattress reviews. After reading this comparison, read my Helix Sleep review and Leesa mattress review for more information on each mattress.  The return policies for both companies are great, so there’s no real risk in giving either a try.

Lull vs Casper

At first glance Lull and Casper look pretty similar, but they end up being very different in terms of construction and feel.  Naturally, people wonder how these two mattresses compare to one another.

I will go through as many of the objective similarities and differences, as well as my personal experience with each, to help you make a more informed decision if you are deciding Lull vs Casper.

Lull vs Casper

Key Similarities

  • Both have the same general online-only business model
  • Both are made from all foam
  • Both are shipped and delivered in a box (with free shipping)
  • Both mattresses have the same total thickness and thickness of the comfort layer
  • Both have great customer service and friendly trial periods / return policies

Key Differences

  • Lull has memory foam on top, while Casper has latex on top
  • Casper has a bouncier, more responsive feel to it
  • The Casper costs $100 more than the Lull

Construction

The Casper mattress consists of 1.5” of latex, over 1.5” of 4lb. density memory foam, over 7” of 1.8 lb. density polyfoam.

The Lull mattress consists of 1.5” of gel-infused memory foam, over 1.5” of latex-like polyfoam, over 7” of high-density polyfoam.

Casper vs Lull Mattress Construction

The difference in construction creates a different feel between the two mattresses.  The Lull Queen weighs 77 lbs, while the Casper Queen weighs 83 lbs, so given that the thickness of both mattresses are the same, Casper is using more dense foam somewhere.

General Feel

Lull Mattress ReviewThe key difference between the two mattresses is the feel.  By putting memory foam as the top layer, the Lull has a relatively slower response feel.  Because it’s only 1.5” of memory foam (with latex-like foam underneath), it doesn’t have the full Tempurpedic feel, more somewhere in-between latex and memory foam.

Casper has latex on top, and as a result has a bouncier, more responsive feel.  As you move, the mattress moves right with you very quickly.  Which feel is better?  Well, that really comes down to personal preference.

I feel that the firmness levels are about the same, potentially with Casper being a bit softer.  Note that this is just my subjective opinion.  To me, I felt Lull was better at catering to all possible sleeping positions.  The pressure relief from the memory foam felt great on my side, while it was still firm and supportive enough to sleep well on my back or stomach.  See my personal experience with each in my Lull review and Casper review.

Price

Casper Mattress BoxCasper sells its Queen for $850.  The Lull sells for $800.  You can usually get $50 off the Lull, so the price difference can be as high as $100.

Pick Lull If:

You Are Looking More For A Memory Foam Feel– If you want the pressure relief and feel memory foam is known for without the bounce of latex, that is what you get from the Lull.

You Sleep In Multiple Positions– One of the best parts of the Lull to me was that it did a great job of catering to any sleeping position.  It relieved pressure well on my side but was still quite supportive on my back and stomach.

You Want To Save Some Money– With the price difference of up to $100, you have the opportunity to save a little bit of money by going with Lull.

Pick Casper If:

You Want A Bouncier, More Responsive Mattress– Casper offers the opportunity to have the benefits of a foam mattress without the slow-moving nature of memory foam as the top layer.  If you want a bouncier mattress that responds quickly to movement, then Casper is the way to go.

You Sleep Mainly Just On Your Side– I thought the Casper was a bit on the soft side, which makes it great for side sleeping.

Best Reviewed Mattresses For Under $1000

If you’re willing to spend up to $1000 on a mattress, you know that you’re getting serious about sleep.

The good news is that with so many online-only ecommerce mattress companies (cutting out a lot of costs of the retail model), you can get some truly high quality mattresses for this price.  And no, you won’t be missing out on the Tempurpedic or Beautyrest mattresses that cost thousands of dollars more.

The really difficult part about this price range is that so many companies are now creating mattresses at the $800-$1000 price range, I get a lot of questions from readers that don’t know how to begin to choose.  Since you’re not laying on them in a store, it’s harder to choose between them for yourself.

Below I put some of my top picks, but more importantly explain my experience and why I like them.  Use this post as a starting guide to help you differentiate between the many mattress options out there!

Top 4 Mattresses Under $1000

No mattress is one-option-fits-all, so I broke the best mattresses under 1000 dollars into four categories:Hybrid, Innerspring, Memory Foam, and Personalized.

These mattresses also rank highly amongst other categories on the site, as well as holding top spots in my overall mattress reviews.

Top Mattress Picks Compared

Lull

Lull Mattress ReviewHybrids is the most popular option for online-only companies, and Lull is no exception.  They have a memory foam over latex-like foam construction, giving the general support/comfort tradeoff of memory foam with a little more “spring” to it.

You can read the specs in my full Lull mattress review, but the short of it is that I just happen to find the mattress incredibly comfortable (note – this is my subjective opinion).  A unique aspect of the mattress is that it is comfortable in all sleeping positions, I like it for both side sleeping and stomach sleeping.

For this category, you can get a Lull King size for $900 – giving it plenty of cushion under $1k.

Saatva

Saatva Mattress ReviewSaatva is one of the few online-only companies to provide an innerspring mattress option, and on top of that they offer firmness options (though I recommend their luxury-firm option for 90% of sleepers).

The company has been around for a number of years, having great reviews as well as good durability ratings.

Though memory foam mattresses are increasingly popular, some people still prefer the feel an bounce of an innerspring mattress (they are a certainly better mattress for sex).  At this price point, I’m convinced that you can’t do better than Saatva.

Novosbed

Novosbed Mattress Reviews and ComplaintsNovosbed is certainly a great choice for foam lovers, in fact it tops my entire best memory foam mattress list.

The foam is very high quality, and in addition to several firmness options they offer a perfect comfort guarantee – where they will send a foam add-on (free of charge) if the firmness isn’t quite what you expected.

Like Saatva, Novosbed has been in the mattress game for quite a while, building a strong reputation for quality and customer service.  Learn more about my experience with the mattress and company in my full Novosbed review.

Helix

picture of the helix mattress next to its boxHelix uses quality materials, but the real story is the ability to personalize.  Before purchasing a Helix mattress, you take a quiz.

Based on the quiz results, Helix will customize your mattress to suit your preferences.  You can even take the quiz for each size of a mattress, making them our top mattress for couples.

At under $1000, Helix is the only company I now to offer this level of customization.  Learn more about my experience (and see my quiz results) in my Helix Sleep review.

Final Recommendation

The good news is that at this price point, you’re getting pretty much the best mattress money can buy.  There are a few mattresses under $2k that have a few extra bells and whistles, but generally you’ll be very satisfied with the products at this price point.

The post Best Reviewed Mattresses For Under $1000 appeared first on Mattress Clarity.

Best Reviewed Mattress for Under $2000

If you’re looking for a mattress under $2000, you have the opportunity to get one of the best mattresses available.  With the new online-only business model for mattresses, the middle men are cut out of the sales process, passing on a lot of savings to the consumer.

Most of the online mattress companies are targeting low-mid tier customers (~$800), though a few are targeting the luxury market.  What’s great about the business model is that you can have all of the bells and whistles in the mattress and still not exceed $2000 (even for a queen or king size).

If you were shopping at a retail store and looking at a Tempurpedic or Beautyrest, you would only be able to get one of the lower-end models for under 2000 dollars.

My Top 3 Mattresses Under $2000

All of these recommended mattresses are very high quality, but even a high quality mattress is not a one-option-fits-all product.  I’ve broken down the options to four categories to help with the selection: memory foam, spring, and natural.

These mattresses also rank top amongst my mattress reviews overall.

Top Under $2k Mattresses Compared

Loom and Leaf

Loom and Leaf ReviewThough Loom & Leaf tops the memory foam option for less than $2k, it is actually significantly less (priced at $1399 for a King), though shipping is not include in the price (most online-only companies include shipping).

This memory foam mattress is the closest that you’ll come to Tempurpedic, but at a fraction of the cost.  They have multiple firmness options, and have used gel-infused foam so that the mattress does not sleep hot.  Loom and Leaf also ranks amongst top memory foam and side sleeper picks.

You’ll also have the feeling of sleeping “in” the mattress, not “on” the mattress, and will have the slow response foam experience that memory foam lovers adore.  Learn more about my experience with this mattress in my Loom & Leaf review.

WinkBeds

WinkBeds Mattress ReviewWinkBeds is a smaller brand, but spent their marketing dollars building the best innerspring mattress possible.  There are two layers of coils and 2 inches of high density memory foam on top.

Though technically a hybrid, WinkBeds feels more like an innerspring mattress.  The extra layer of foam on top makes it a good option for side sleepers.

The company also has a great reputation and very personable customer support.  To learn more about this mattress visit my WinkBeds review.

PlushBeds

PlushBeds Botanical Bliss ReviewPlushBeds Botanical Bliss is personally one of my favorite options, a high quality latex mattress that is actually 100% natural.

They import the latex themselves from Sri Lanka, and ensure every part of the mattress high quality and organic.  Learn about their process in my PlushBeds review.

Latex is also a great sleeping option because it has the comfort/support tradeoff similar to memory foam, but has more “spring”.  This makes it better for sex and easier to move around when sleeping.

Note of Caution

When purchasing a mattress, there are a number of bells and whistles that you can definitely spend money on, but (in my opinion) won’t improve your sleep experience whatsoever.

Yes, you can pay an extra $1k for diamond infused gel foam, but this isn’t going to sleep noticeably cooler than other gel options.

The options I chose above of course aren’t the most expensive mattresses available, but I do think that they have all the features that are worth paying for.  That is, I don’t have any mattresses that I strongly recommend that are priced higher than $2000.

The mattresses are, in my opinion, some of the best for the money, but also the best available.  Let me know if you have any questions on these brands or others listed on the site!

Novosbed Vs Casper

Casper is a major online-only player in the mattress industry that is currently the most well-known online-only mattress.  Novosbed has actually been around since 2009, and it has quietly built a very successful business that has been picking up steam over the past couple of years.

Naturally, people wonder how the two mattresses compare to one another.  Overall I prefer Novosbed, but Casper may suit people with certain preferences.  Read on to see the results of Novosbed vs Casper.

Construction

The Casper mattress consists of 1.5” of latex, over 1.5” of 4lb. density memory foam, over 7” of 1.8 lb. density polyfoam.

The Novosbed consists of 2” of 5lb. density memory foam (for the medium firmness), over another 2” of 5 lb. memory foam, over 1.8 lb. density polyfoam.

Novosbed vs Casper Mattress

They both use high quality materials in their construction.  With latex as the top layer, the Casper is much more responsive and bouncy than the Novosbed.  Whether that is a good thing is up to personal preference.

General Feel

This is a key difference between the two mattresses.  Novosbed has the slow-moving, pure memory foam feel.  Casper is much more responsive and bouncier.  One feel isn’t necessarily better than the other.  It really comes down to your personal preference.  See more about each feel in my Novosbed review and Casper review.

Getting The Right Firmness

The main message from Casper is the mattress is one-size-fits-all.  This definitely can’t be true in every circumstance.  Consider a 400 lb. person versus a 100 lb. person.  They are going to have different opinions about the firmness of the mattress.  I think Casper is a good fit for a lot of people, but not for everybody.

Novosbed has three firmness options, which is a great start.  However, it is unique in that it offers a perfect firmness guarantee.  That means if you think the mattress is too firm or soft, they will send you a “comfort +” adjustment, which will make the necessary adjustment to get to the right firmness.  This is something unique in the industry and potentially a reason why you would want to pick Novosbed.

Price

Casper sells its Queen for $850.  Novosbed sells its Queen for $999 (it’s $1,099 but there’s usually a $100 discount available).  With the price difference, you ultimately have to decide if the difference in quality between the two mattresses justifies the difference in price.

Pick Novosbed If:

Novosbed Mattress Reviews and Complaints

Novosbed memory foam mattress

You Are Specifically Looking For A Memory Foam Feel– Novosbed provides the slow-moving, quicksand feel that memory foam is known for.  Lots of people love that type of feel, and that’s what you get with Novosbed.

You Are Concerned About Whether Your Mattress Will Be Too Soft/Firm– Novosbed’s perfect firmness guarantee is a unique innovation in the industry that should eliminate any concern about whether the mattress will be the right firmness for you.  If it’s not, they will send you a comfort + adjustment to make the mattress slightly firmer/softer, depending on your needs.

You Want A Longer-Term Investment– Novosbed uses materials that are a bit more durable than Casper does.  It’s not a huge difference, but if you really want a mattress for the long haul and are deciding between the two, it’s definitely something to consider.

Pick Casper If:

Casper Mattress BoxYou Want A Mattress With Some Bounce– Casper definitely is noticeably bouncier than Novosbed.  Some people prefer that type of feel and it’s a key difference between the two mattresses.

You Want To Save A Little Money / Don’t Anticipate Having The Mattress For A Really Long Time– As I mentioned above, Novosbed has a slight edge in quality and durability of materials.  That matters less if you don’t anticipate sleeping on the mattress for 8+ years.

Overall

Given the key differences in the feel of the two mattresses, deciding between the two should come down to personal preference.  If you are worried about getting the right firmness, then Novosbed to me should be the clear choice because of its perfect firmness guarantee.  Either way though, both options are high quality and could be a great choice.
