We get a lot of emails asking which mattress we like best. From what we can tell, whatever we say, the person will just go out and immediately buy that mattress. As we do this site more and more, we are noticing that a small percentage want to do intense research on which mattress they will like best. A majority of people just want to do some very light research, and they don't really care that much if they think they are getting a good value. A small percentage are like what we described before where they don't want to do any research at all, and they just want a recommendation.
We understand each person's position. What we would recommend is at least doing some research to gain an understanding of the different types of mattresses and their pros and cons. From there, you should analyze the type of feel you like and whether you sleep mainly on your side, back, stomach, or some combination of those three. If you can at least do that little bit of research, you will be putting yourself at a much greater chance of success with your purchase.
I think a lot of people don't want to do tons of research because there are so many options, the terminology is very confusing, and it's very difficult to compare different mattress models. It's all set up to be very discouraging, and that's why people a lot of times just want a recommendation. We completely understand that mindset, but we would just recommend that you at least do some basic research.
If someone recommends a memory foam mattress to you, you may not like it because it has a very particular feel that some people love and some people hate. If you sleep only on your stomach, but someone recommends a mattress that is ideal for side sleepers, then you probably won't end up liking the mattress to much. There are many ways that quick recommendations can go wrong.
Ultimately, no one will know for certain that you will love a certain mattress. It's up to you to do some basic research to at least make sure you are giving yourself a higher chance of success.
